Several times a year, various techniques
are demonstrated, hands on projects are done, or special programs
are presented. These programs may be slide shows of other guilds
or national shows. Occasionally there may be an outside/local
teacher giving a class. Sometimes these are combined with Community
Service workshops. |

Community Sewing Workshops: |
Approximately nine times a year, the Community
Sewing Committee plans workshops. The workshops are usually on the Saturday following the monthly meeting from
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. We provide the labor and machines, and the
Guild provides the materials. Most of the quilts are given
to individuals who have lost everything in a house fire. For up-to-date information, contact: Jan Cannon: 456-1311

Small Quilt Groups: |
Generally these are very unstructured groups
who meet in members' homes or one of the quilt stores as often
as weekly or as little as monthly. Members are encouraged to
start their own group among those of like interest or to join
present groups. |

January: |
Quilting in the Snow A two and a half day weekend retreat
held at Chena Hot Springs Resort. Guild members enjoy classes
and relaxation as they get away to do what they enjoy most
- quilting, eating, and socializing - away from the demands
of home. |

January/February: |
Secret Quilting Pals (SQP) runs from February to January. SQP forms are due by the December meeting, SQP's are assigned in January and first gifts are given in February. SQP's are revealed at the following January meeting. An entire year of treats culminates in January when "SQP's" discover the source of the many delights of the past months.

March: |
Laura's Quilt Slushy which is a four-day-long retreat-at-home held at Pioneer Park Civic Center. Classes and demonstrations by local teachers and fellow Guild members, and time for self directed sewing, knitting, etc. Cost is kept low and quilters can attend one or more days as desired. Named in honor of Laura Fenton who spearheaded this local retreat for many years.
Art Expo and
National Quilt Day The third Saturday in March is National Quilt Day. In 2004,
we started a new tradition of making a quilt in a weekend at the Fairbanks
Arts Association Art Expo, a weekend of artist workshops and

April: |
Annual Pot Luck Dinner and Potholder Exchange Members share their culinary delights
as each brings a dish for this potluck dinner which precedes the regular meeting.
A time for food and socializing: both greatly enjoyed by all quilters. Immediately
following the meeting, a potholder exchange is held. Each member who wishes
to particiapte brings a potholder of her own creation and receives another
in return. Members are encouraged to bring an extra potholder to contribute
toward our table at the University Women's Bazaar in November. |

May: |
Ugly Fabric quilt show & tell.
Annual Fashion Show Members are encouraged to model any garments made during
the year. |

June: |
Solstice Quilting Party Takes place on or near the longest day of the year, which
gives every participant the opportunity to quilt as long as the sun stays up
- all night! It has also been rumored to include food, hot tubbing and swimming.
In the past, a mystery quilt has been a part of the program - as well as an
unfinished project night. |

July: |
Biannual Quilt Show
Held at the Fairbanks Arts Association Gallery at Pioneer Park (formerly AlaskaLand).
This special show draws many spectators from around the world. The raffle quilt
is displayed and small quilts may also be offered for sale through the Fairbanks
Arts Association.

August: |
Tanana Valley Fair Quilt show and competition. Our guild judges and displays
all entries in this division of the Fair. members narrate the Quilt Show every
hour during the Fair.
Also, held at the fair is a Small Quilt Auction. This is a silent auction of small and miniature quilts (maximum 100 inches circumference). The quilts are made and donated by guild members and is a very important fundraiser for our guild. The quilts are displayed during the entire fair

September: |
No special activities are planned
for September. |

October: |
Annual Meeting October marks the end of the
year for the Guild. Our annual meeting is a special event,
held in a local restaurant with dinner and many special
items on the program. Outgoing officers and committee persons are honored and
new officers are installed. The drawing for our annual raffle quilt is done
at this meeting and usually a challenge is due for display. |

November: |
University Women's Bazaar The Guild participates
annually in the University Women's Bazaar, held at the Wood
Center on the UAF campus on the first weekend of November.
This bazaar, one of the Christmas season's first and largest, attracts many
shoppers and is a good source of funds. |

December: |
Ornament Exchange In the spirit of the holiday
season, members exchange ornaments following the business meeting.
Each participant brings an hand crafted ornament
and receives by lottery one brought by another member. |
